Sal is an accounting operations and strategic financial consultant at Cheatham Consulting, LLC. For over thirty-four years, Sal worked in the surety industry, culminating in his tenure as Vice President of Accounting and Financing for Zurich Financial Services from 1996 to 2010. Sal now uses his extensive surety and construction accounting knowledge to analyze financial scenarios for sureties, reinsurers, contractors, and owners.

Sal provides thorough, detailed and accurate analyses for sureties, reinsurers, construction companies and owners. As the Vice President of Finance at Zurich Financial Services starting in 2001, Sal oversaw the financial affairs of the Surety Business Unit, helping it grow to the second largest writer of surety bonds. Sal fostered this growth by evaluating, monitoring and reporting to other company executives on business strategies, operational initiatives, and marketing and underwriting initiatives.

During his career, Sal led a number of accounting strategies, including:

• Developing, implementing, and monitoring corporate governance controls over all business processes of the Zurich Surety Business Unit;
• Establishing a framework for financial reporting quality standards and controls, which resulted in 50 percent reduction in time expended on quarterly closings and reportings;
• Reorganizing and integrating the General Accounting and Financial Analysis Departments into a single operating unit of 31 employees;
• Assisting with a merger by incorporating an acquired subsidiary’s accounting system and procedures into the existing company; and
• Conducting an industry benchmark study that served as the basis for setting high-level corporate goals and strategies.
